Ladies team tops the 2019 NSE investment challenge

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 20 – The Nairobi Securities Exchange PLC (NSE) recognized and awarded the winners of the 2019 NSE Investment Challenge Awards, Wednesday, following the completion of this year’s competition.

Monica Kamiti and Beatrice Njeri, third year students at the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology were the winners of the 2019 NSE Investment Challenge after gaining a portfolio return of Sh3,919,471.

Samson Kibirah a student at the Kenya School of Revenue Administration and Jacob Wafula from Machakos University were the first and second runners up with portfolio returns of Sh3,202,655 and Sh3,487,572 respectively.

Collins Koech, a local entrepreneur, was the winner of the non-student category with a portfolio return of 3,571,475. James Ngwera and Stanley Sewe were the first and second runners up in the non-student category with portfolio returns of Sh3,469,694 and Sh3,076,207 respectively.

Speaking during the Awards Ceremony, Geoffrey Odundo, NSE Chief Executive noted that, “The NSE is keen and focused on enhancing financial literacy amongt the youth in Kenya as we seek to mold a new crop of future investors.”

“Since its inception, the NSE Investment challenge has directly attracted over 100,000 students and trained thousands through the annual university and technical institutions tours. It is our desire to see the young African men and women realize their full potential through key initiatives that involve young people like the investment challenge,” he added.

Reiterating his remarks, Dr. Patrick Njoroge, Governor, Central Bank of Kenya exuded confidence on the ability of the NSE Investment Challenge to inspire confidence in investment among the youth. “Initiatives such as the NSE Investment Challenge are key in supporting personal growth and development among the youth,” he said.

“I urge all the youth to take advantage of such platforms to improve their livelihoods,” he concluded.
