NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 27 – Kenya Railways Corporation (KWC) has officially begun the search for a new Managing Director after the suspension of Atanas Maina last year on graft charges.

In a vacancy advertisement in the local dailies, the government corporation says it is looking for a dynamic and experienced strategist with at least 15 years of relevant experience in public service or in a large and reputable private sector organization.

The candidate should also have a bachelors and a master’s degree in any of the fields which include engineering, business administration, marketing or strategic management among others.

The Managing Director will be tasked with several roles among them providing strategic leadership, overseeing corporate planning and managing and implementing change initiatives.

“An attractive renumeration package commensurate with qualifications and responsibilities of the position will be negotiated with the right candidate,” says the notice.

Last year, Maina was among those suspended over the irregular payments of SGR compensation., among them National Land Commission chair Prof Mohammed Swazuri, KR Surveyors Victor Wahome and Elijah Mwenda.

Their charges stemmed from the loss of Sh221,375,000 from Kenya Railways.

According to the Director of Public Prosecutions, taxpayers’ money was lost in fraudulent compensation for five pieces of public land the government acquired to build the railway.
