NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 16 – Kenya Airways has appointed Jambojet’s CEO Allan Kilavuka as its Acting CEO, replacing Sebastian Mikosz who chose to not seek a second term at the airline.

In a statement, the board of the national carrier says Kilavuka will only be at the helm until a substantive chief executive is recruited and appointed.

In May this year, Mikosz, who took up the position in May 2017, announced he was stepping down from the troubled airlines without giving a reason, five months before the end of his three-year contract.

“The Board wishes to emphasize that the recruitment process for a substantive Chief Executive
Officer with the necessary experience and knowledge was initiated upon the announcement of
Sebastian Mikosz’s decision to leave the airline at the end of 2019,” the board said in a statement.

The process is still actively on going and the Board will inform all our stakeholders once a suitable candidate has been identified.”

During Mikosz tenure, Kenya Airways reduced its losses to just under Sh6 billion in the year through March 2018 from a record Sh26.2 billion two years earlier.

This past August, the airlines’ half-year loss more than doubled to Sh8.56 billion, attributable to increased operating costs in the wake of its expansion into new routes and the return of two Boeing 787 planes that had been sub-leased to Oman Air.
