CS Matiang’i Hails Ongoing War against Gambling, Urges Kenyans to Join Govt in Fight against BettingOctober 8, 2019
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i says the ongoing crackdown against gambling machines and betting companies in the country is bearing fruit.
Speaking on Monday during a meeting with the Muslim leadership at Jamia Mosque, the tough-talking CS expressed satisfaction at the strides made by the government in a bid to minimize the negative effects of gambling.
He acknowledged that the anti-gambling purge has not been easy but the State remains relentless. CS Matiang’i further urged Kenyans to join the government in the war against gambling and betting.
“Data shows since we started a crackdown on gambling, change has been seen. It has not been a bed of roses but I am resolute in stopping it. No country has been built by gambling. This must be fought by every Kenyan,” the CS said.
Matiang’i’s sentiments were echoed by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale who spoke at the same event saying gambling is “a threat to national security”.
The Garissa Township Member of Parliament stated that gambling needs to be banned completely.
