NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 18- Burn Manufacturers is urging families to adopt the use of modernized jikos, saying its cheaper to use than gas.

The company’s Communication Coordinator Nimo Nyambura says that the modernized jikos is especially useful to young family setups who are might be cautious of their house helps who may not know how to operate a gas.

The company has garnered attention over the years with its ‘Jikokoa’ modernized jiko.

“You realize most people do not trust their nannies to light the gas because you are not sure she will turn the knob off completely or not,” she said.

She further adds that the families trust the house helps more with the modern jiko since they are likely to have garnered experience from using the traditional model.

“Majority of the nannies come from the rural areas and they are used to using jikos so you are able to tell that she can easily learn how to operate the modern one as compared to the gas,” Nyambura adds.

Some of the modernized jikos in Kenya include Kunisaver firing Jiko and Jikokoa.

As for modern Jikokoa, it uses 50 percent of less charcoal, where it can be used to cook more than three meals in one evening.

“ This is one efficient means of cooking energy as you will only be required to use very minimal charcoal with minimal supervision, and it cuts costs as compared to the use of gas and also the traditional jiko uses a lot of charcoal,” Nyambura further explains.

The modern jikokoa has two sizes, where the smaller one retails at Sh3,990 while the bigger one retails at Sh4,990.

According to Nyambura, majority of jikokoa customers are from Central region.

Burn Manufacturer currently produces a 1000 jikos a day, where they make on in every 40 seconds.

“Our production can also depend on the number of clients we are dealing with since sometimes we sell them in bulk and in a week, we are able to produce over 10,000 of them, “she says.
